TODAY I supported the British and Irish Lions and Andy Murray in their respective matches against South Africa and Viktor Troicki.

Bismarck and The Beast

THE Lions have rung the changes for the second test bringing in five new faces.

Rob Kearney and Luke Fitzgerald come into the backs with Simon Shaw slotting into the second row.

But it is in the front row where changes were needed most after Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira dominated the first test scrum.

English duo Phil Vickery and Lee Mears have been dropped in favour of Welshmen Adam Jones and Matthew Rees, but it is not Vickery’s or Mears’ fault for they were never going to stand a chance against two men named Bismarck and The Beast. Read the rest of this entry »

Nose overshadows first Lions test

WATCHING the first test between South Africa and the British and Irish Lions one thing caught my eye in particular.

It was not the flow of first-half penalties against the Lions at the scrum.

It was not Brian O’Driscoll and Jamie Roberts continually breaking the South African line.

It was not even the Lions’ valiant comeback from 26-7 down.
